I have to ask

Posted by HenLP - March 16th, 2024

Did something happen in August 2023?

Unfortunately, I've noticed that, for some reason, the interaction my art uploads took a massive drop. After Summer last year, I started seeing that about half of the views my stuff usually got. And after New Years, unless I generously get featured on the front page (thank you for each and every one, it's still humbling whenever it happens), most of them struggle to get past a hundred views... but the number of fans has not declined? Did I piss people off?

It's just weird, and maybe it's because I'm so insulated from everything else. At least with Tumblr, I knew why I was no longer reaching people. Cringe or not, I post my stuff online because I like sharing my art with other people.

Sometime, they are slow seasons everywhere. not just here.

Maybe?

@HenLP This last days has been wild and weird, maybe people is distracted, but maybe it's just me.

I don't know if that accounts for almost seven months of decline, even if I understand the past week.

Well, summer has always higher activity because of holidays from school.

Other than that it is tough to say. My guess is bigger part of your fans here are "passerbys" and they are not visiting newgrounds regurarly. I visit this place every day, but even then I'm not person to do huge amount of reviews. There are some freaks that will do that 10 times more than me, but still they may not be enough to sustain it for everyone. Word "review" is also probably reason why people don't write them that often. On other platforms it is always "comment", where you can say anything you want, but "review" sounds very formal.

I meant more in the sense of just checking out when I post something.

I get that not everyone who follows someone on any website is going to look up everything that person does; oftentimes, you get 'impulse' follows, because someone sees one singular piece of art you've done, and follow immediately. But it's still weird that I went from an average of 200/300 views, to barely 150, to now almost never going beyond 50. Yet that Fan number has only gone up.

And I'd like to know why. Again, with Tumblr, there was the external reasons relating to the exodus of that platform, and that people weren't sharing or searching for stuff anymore; and the internal reasons of me dropping my main crutch for drawing. But as far as I'm aware, nothing changed on Newgrounds. And if I'm the problem, I'd have liked to know, so I can either grumble about it or double-down.

@HenLP It's easy to assume that you're not doing enough and that really can put everyone down. but trust me, It's not the end of the world.

Sure. But I like being informed about these matters.

I don't know, actually. Don't remember anything in particular
